Really saddened by the news. I knew of George’s reputation long before we ever worked together and then we did, first, working on opposite sides of the fence when he was at Chase Manhattan in the late 1980’s and then cooperating in the early 00’s at Lombard / Direct Line, as well as sharing the podium with him several times over the years. Clever, thoughtful, creative, insightful, and fun to be with. Although George had retired - four times, I think - I still enjoyed seeing him and will treasure our last meeting over lunch in Surbiton. George was a man of many parts. Apart from his professional life, he was also a painter and a creative writer – and a music producer. I remember being out for dinner the night he heard that his financial backing of a re-release of Grandmaster Flash had broken into profit. I will keep the Christmas cards in a file for many years as a reminder of the man. David Edelman
